Education
Research
Outcomes research, built on data
Before medical school, Dr. Harris spent four years as a research analyst and programmer at Mathematica Policy Research, studying quality improvement, chronic-disease management, and welfare and education programs. Earlier, at the National Opinion Research Center, he built econometric models of wage trends and early childhood development.
That quantitative background carried into neurosurgery. His research uses large administrative and claims databases, including MarketScan, the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project and NSQIP-Pediatric, to study outcomes in pediatric neurosurgery, hydrocephalus, cerebrovascular injury and spine surgery. He has also built MATLAB models of neural networks and seizure behavior.
